Forests of Gestalt 2018

a collaborative research project with Dr Alexander Shenkin

Architecture, the process and product of designing and building manmade and natural structures, is both a functional response to requirements and a form of artistic expression. Science has a keen interest in understanding natural architectures, particularly pertaining to trees and forests, in order to discover new ways to respond to environmental issues.

Working at the intersection where perspectives of ecology, physics, architecture and art meet, Forests of Gestalt is a research project that seeks to develop more nuanced and deeper understandings of the natural world so clearly needed in this age of environmental uncertainty.
